Do you like the color red? If you do, even a little, this rare dial on the Daniel Roth 207 Le Sentier would be beyond fetching. The master watchmaker, recognized immediately for his signature double-ellipse case, is known for his striking style, but this particular watch is a cut above the usual eye-popping form. While Daniel Roth watches are extremely recognizable today, he spent much of his career helping establish someone else’s identity.

Roth was born into a watchmaking family, but sharpened his skills during seven years at Audemars Piguet before taking on the immense task of reviving Breguet during the quartz revolution. He spent 14 years there, studying Abraham-Louis Breguet’s work and helping to translate the historic watchmaker’s aesthetic into modern-day wristwatches.

In 1988, however, Roth utilized those traditional influences to create his own distinct style through his own brand. He created a signature double-ellipse case and gave his watches an identity all their own. The 207 Le Sentier carries plenty of that Daniel Roth DNA, but with a slightly looser shirt collar.

The stainless-steel case retains those unmistakable proportions, remaining compact at 34mm wide, 38mm lug-to-lug, and just 8.2mm thick. Inside is an automatic movement, surprising considering the thinness of the case, keeping this particular Roth example simple and wearable. And then… there’s that dial. Against the cool look of the stainless-steel case, the vibrant dial takes Roth’s unconventional design language and amps it up a level. Roth liked to add a bit of vibrance to his work, including everything from salmon to electric blue dials, alongside unusual case-and-dial combinations that showed he could be playful within traditional watchmaking.

This particular 207 is an appealing proposition because you still get the proportions and design eccentricity that make a Daniel Roth recognizable, but with this dial, it’s like you’re getting the Hawaiian shirt version: bold, bright, and unapologetically colorful.
