Overlooked is your weekly horological treasure hunt — where we dig through the vaults of European Watch Company to spotlight a few quietly brilliant pieces hiding in plain sight. It’s the sleeper hit, the underdog, the “wait, how is this still available?” watch you didn’t know you needed… until now.

The weather can be unpredictable this time of year. Will it snow? Rain? Sleet? A lovely mix of all three? While none of us particularly enjoy the unique meteorological phenomenon that is the “wintry mix,” we can enjoy the crisp colors and tones that are reminiscent of the winter season on these four wonderful watches.

Rolex 218206 Day-Date II President Platinum Ice Blue

The dial on this Rolex Day-Date is a captivating shade of icy blue, bringing to mind the subtle shades of blue visible on an iceberg. This dial color is reserved for Rolex’s platinum models, lending a nice heft to its wrist presence, in a very wearable 41mm case size. It features Roman numerals, a day and date aperture, an in-house automatic caliber 3156 movement, and a platinum bracelet. A perfect match for the land of ice and snow.

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Titanium Limited Edition for Phillips

In the darkest days of winter, the landscape often resembles shades of soft gray and white. The dial of this Bvlgari Octo Finissimo has a lovely gray-white background with contrasting indices that are a reminder of those winter tones. The Octo Finissimo’s key design elements really stand out here, with an interplay of shapes that draws the eye. It’s powered by Bvlgari’s ultra-thin automatic movement, and at only 6.7mm thick with a titanium case and bracelet, it feels incredibly light, like a whispered tale.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Q604848J Duometre Quantieme Lunaire

Bodies of water that have frozen over during the winter months can display varying deep shades of blue, like the dial of this model from Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Duometre Quantieme Lunaire features an in-house, manually-wound Calibre 381, with calendar, moonphase, and power reserve indicators. This model is also the first time the Duometre Quantieme Lunaire was made available in a stainless steel case, bringing the technical capabilities of the “watchmaker’s watchmaker” into a metal that can be worn on any occasion, from driving a ship to landing on the western shore.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase Aventurine Dial

It’s not often that you see a Speedmaster with a stone dial. There are some examples, including meteorite, but aventurine is a decidedly atypical material for the Speedy. This Speedmaster Professional Moonphase is reminiscent of the winter night sky, with its deep blue-black aventurine sparkling like the midnight sun. Its manually wound in-house Caliber 1866 movement also includes a date display, a 12-hour chronograph, and like it says in the name, a moonphase indicator, further invoking that night sky vibe.

From snowy whites to deep blues and everything in between, the colors of winter feel familiar and comfortable, even when the temperatures do not. These four timepieces evoke the winter landscape without leaving you in the cold.
