Each week, EWC will be gathering horological industry news, cultural conversations and moments surrounding our favorite topic: timepieces. Happy Friday; here’s what’s on our watch.

We're more than a full week into the new year, and we all know what that means: award show season. We saw the first big red carpet of the year, as well as a few new releases to get us ready for what's to come in 2026. Let's jump right in.

New Releases

Hublot released its latest collaboration, the Classic Fusion Yohji Yamamoto All Black Camo. This is the brand’s fourth collaboration with the iconic Japanese fashion designer, whose focus on texture, construction, and fabric movement has brought life to all-black clothing since his debut in 1981. This collaboration marries Hublot’s All Black concept with Yamamoto’s focus on texture and contrast, resulting in a timepiece that is a study in the art of shadow, subtle details, and materials. The 42mm black matte ceramic case is paired with a black-on-black dial in a camouflage pattern, a textured black fabric and rubber strap, and a smoked sapphire caseback, which offers a mysterious peek at the in-house automatic Hublot calibre MHUB1110 and its skeletonized rotor.

Oris presented their Year of the Horse Limited Edition, which marks the Chinese Year of the Fire Horse. In keeping with the fire horse theme, the dial is a smoldering combination of reds, with a dark red main dial color accented with more fiery subdials. In keeping with the horse theme, its cordovan leather strap is made from horse hide. This piece features the in-house Calibre 113, which shows the day, date, and month on the dial, as well as a week indicator. It has a 10-day power reserve, and the playful power reserve indicator has galloping and relaxing horse motifs to indicate the power remaining.

Other recent Year of the Horse celebrations include two 25-piece Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Horse editions (covered previously here), three limited edition Reverso Tribute Enamel editions from Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrating the beauty and power of the horse, and IWC’s 500-piece limited edition Portugieser Automatic 42 Year of the Horse.

Celeb Sightings

The Critics Choice Awards red carpet featured a veritable cornucopia of watch sightings, including Timothée Chalamet in an Akrivia AK-06, Michael B. Jordan in a vintage Audemars Piguet, Leonardo DiCaprio in a Rolex Land-Dweller, Adam Brody in a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds Pink Gold, Paul Mescal in a Cartier Tortue in white gold, and Jeff Goldblum in a Blancpain Villeret Ultraplate, among others.

Stylists, take note: let’s put more watches on women on red carpets!

Chris Pratt was spotted wearing a Hublot Big Bang Unico Titanium 44mm in London at an event promoting his upcoming film, “Mercy”. The piece has a skeletonized automatic flyback chronograph movement, and though it is typically a sportier piece, looked apropos with his sport coat at the elegant venue at Claridge’s Hotel.

Watch happenings

The Man of the Hour series that focuses on watchmaking will debut today, January 9, on discovery+. The show, featuring Revolution Watch founder Wei Koh as host and executive producer, debuted in November 2025 in several countries in Asia and the Middle East, and is now expanding availability to the US. It’s expected to launch in other markets soon.
