Each week, EWC will be gathering horological industry news, cultural conversations and moments surrounding our favorite topic: timepieces. Happy Friday; here’s what’s on our watch.

How is it possible that we’re at the end of February already? Time seems to be moving very fast so far in 2026, so let’s take a look at what’s going on this week before it passes us by.

New releases

Ressence released its latest piece, the Type 9 IKE, in collaboration with Japanese artist Terumasa Ikeda. It incorporates layers of lacquer and mother-of-pearl inlay in an out-of-this-world composition that’s enhanced by the convex dial of the Type 9. In an edition of only 8 pieces, it was created not as a way to showcase a collaborator’s art, but in true collaboration with Ressence’s rotating dial. It has a 39mm Grade 5 titanium case and Ressence’s patented Ressence Orbital Convex System.

Hermes introduced the latest iteration of its iconic Cape Cod watch with the Cape Cod Mini. Available in a number of configurations and a compact 27 x 20 mm case size, it comes with a variety of dials in argenté, étoupe or ardoise in a steel case and a doré or Rouge H dial in the yellow gold case. Strap variations include a single or double tour option.

TAG Heuer announced the latest version of its Connected Calibre E5 with the Formula 1 Edition. It features dynamic interchangeable faces featuring a unique design for each of the 24 Grand Prix weekends, sure to delight fans of Formula 1.

Awards season marches on

It’s still award season, and you know what that means: watches on the red carpet. At last weekend’s BAFTA ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the stars were showing off their horological chops.

The cast and filmmaker of the lauded and heavily nominated film Sinners wore some great watches. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler wore a Rolex Daytona to collect his award for Best Original Screenplay, while the film’s star Michael B. Jordan wore a vintage Vacheron Constantin Prestige de la France. Miles Caton, who plays the pivotal role of Sammie in the film, wore a Louis Vuitton Tambour.

Other highlights from the BAFTAs included Patrick Dempsey in a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon, Prince William in an Omega Seamaster Quartz, and Paul Mescal in a vintage Cartier Tank Basculante.

Watch industry news

MOAR TARIFFS?? After the United States Supreme Court struck down the Trump Administration’s tariffs in a 6-3 ruling last week, the administration announced a new blanket tariff under Section 122 of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974. The rule allows for a limited tariff to resolve a balance of payments issue and can only be enacted for 150 days. Initially announced as 10% but then revised to 15%, a report from the BBC has said that the actual collection of tariffs have settled back to the 10% rate. It is too soon to tell whether the continued uncertainty will have an effect on watch imports to the U.S.

Time+Tide opened their latest Discovery Studio in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. Located at 460 Broome Street, the 2,000 square foot space serves multiple purposes. It’s a place where watch enthusiasts can interact with brands they may have never seen before, some of which only sell direct-to-consumer otherwise. It also serves as a social space for watch community events, and as an event space for recent launches like Toledano & Chan and the latest iterations of Studio Underd0g x Time+Tide’s pizza-themed watches.

The Intersect watch show will be in NYC this weekend at the event venue Lavan Midtown. The event showcases 36 exhibiting brands, all of which are at approachable price points, and is free to attend. RSVPs are suggested on their website.
