Audemars Piguet 5402 ST Royal Oak A Series 5402ST, the 5402 was the first series of the Royal Oak introduced in the early 70s, the stainless steel case is in remarkable original condition and may not have ever been polished, all edges are thick and extremely crisp (especially on the bezel) which is very rare to find, single folding deployant clasp, automatic legendary ultra thin caliber 2121 also found in the Vacheron Overseas 222 and Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700, the dark grey dial has aged to a nice patina and is in fantastic original condition, the dial has aged uniformly and all the tritium on the dial and hands are original and unaltered, applied steel AP on the dial, Audemars Piguet signature is still bold and clear, solid case back showing "A" serial number, diameter: 39mm, thickness: 7.1mm, Outstanding Collector condition for an iconic and important Audemars Piguet reference. This is a rare vintage 1974 stainless steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak A Series 5402ST. It has an integral stainless-steel bracelet with a double deployment clasp, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a solid case back engraved with the "A" serial number, secured with 8 screws embanked with 8 hexagonal nuts, and a signed hexagonal screw-down winding crown. The 39mm diameter solid two-body case, octagonal flat bezel, downturned lugs, and bracelet are polished/brushed. It has an anthracite grey "clous de Paris" tapisserie dial, applied faceted baton silver hour markers with tritium luminous inserts, and luminous steel baton hands. There is a date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, it has a 40-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 7.1mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak B Series 5402ST has a mechanical automatic self-winding Audemars Piguet ultra-thin caliber 2121 movement that's rhodium-plated with Cotes de Geneve embellishment. It's constructed with 36 jewels, and a shock absorber mechanism. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a Gyromax balance that's adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a 21K gold skeletonized rotor. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vplh (3Hz). The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak A Series 5402ST was introduced in 1972 at the annual Swiss Watch Show in Basel (later renamed BaselWorld).
