The stainless steel case is in excellent original condition with original bevels still intact. It has a military nylon strap with a stainless steel deployment clasp, and an acrylic crystal. It includes a pull out double "O" ring gasket winding crown, and a solid screw down case back engraved with "BLANCPAIN – MILSPEC – AUTOMATIC – AM 97 – ANTIMAGNETIC - SHOCK PROTECTED – STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS MADE." It includes the original brass anti magnetic dust cover, and the 41mm diameter solid three-body case, gently curved lugs, and flat unidirectional bezel, are brushed. The bezel has the original black AM-model Bakelite in excellent condition, with the gilt Arabic numeral elapsed dive times and baton minute markers, a knurled edge, and there is a dive triangle at the 60 minute position. The original T Swiss T black dial has evenly aged tritium dot and baton hour indices, a luminous dive triangle at 12 o'clock, surrounded by a white perimeter minute/seconds scale. There is a round moisture indicator at 6 o clock that has aged uniformly with the dial, and it has the original steel pointed baton hands with luminous tritium inserts. It includes the original center sweep seconds hand with a luminous arrow-shaped tip, and there is a perimeter white minute/second scale. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Milspec 1 "AM" has a mechanical automatic Blancpain caliber AS 1361N movement that's rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, an Incabloc anti-shock device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a weighted rotor, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. It has a hacking small seconds device for precision time setting, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz). The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Milspec 1 "AM" was introduced in 1957-58. Originally designed for the French navy, it became the standard-issue watch for U.S. Navy combat swimmers in 1958, hence "MILSPEC," stands for military specifications. This is a rare, early 1960's example.
