More about Portofino Moonphase 5251 18k Yellow Gold 46MM WOW

This is an 18k yellow gold IWC Portofino Moonphase 5251. It has an alligator leather strap with an 18k yellow gold IWC tang buckle and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a yellow gold pull out winding crown and an exhibition sapphire display case back. The 46mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and rounded bezel are polished. The dial is white enamel with painted Roman numerals and indices around a minute track. It has steel Breguet hands and there is a small constant seconds subsidiary dial at 9 o'clock and a moon phase dial at 3 o'clock. The 9.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The watch is powered by Kurt Klauss' mechanical manual winding IWC caliber 9521 pocket watch movement which is gold plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 19 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to five positions. The IWC Portofino Moonphase 5251 was introduced in 1981 when legendary IWC watchmaker Kurt Klauss decided to take his caliber 9521 pocket watch movement and convert it to a wrist watch. The watch is extremely rare and less than 350 total examples are believed to have been produced.
