Messidor is the month in the French Republican calendar in which Abraham-Louis Breguet secured the tourbillon patent in 1801, making this a tourbillon from the very house that conceived the complication. The manual-winding calibre 558SQ2 drives a construction in which the rose gold tourbillon carriage turns at six, cradled between two sapphire crystals so that it appears to float free of the movement, while off-centred hours and minutes sit in the upper register beneath blued Breguet hands. The platinum case measures 40mm across and 9.7mm thick, substantial in the hand yet composed on the wrist. The skeletonised dial leaves the entire mechanism open to view.
