Released in 2026, the IW328601 Pilot's Venturer Vertical Drive is one of the most technically ambitious recent pilot's watches from IWC and an expansion of the brand's XPL engineering program into human spaceflight. Instead of reworking an existing aviation model, IWC built this reference from the ground up as a mechanical tool watch for astronauts, with a crownless architecture built around a patent-pending rotating bezel control system. The black dial is clean and highly legible, with a dedicated 24-hour mission-time display and an independently adjustable local hour hand for dual-time use. The white zirconium oxide ceramic case is paired with a Ceratanium bezel and case back, a combination chosen for thermal stability, scratch resistance, and durability in extreme conditions. Inside, the in-house caliber 32722 uses automatic winding and a hybrid system that also allows the watch to be wound through bezel rotation, an unusual solution developed with reliability in microgravity and zero-gravity use in mind. This reference was introduced in partnership with Vast and tested for use aboard Haven-1, which places it among the few contemporary mechanical watches designed specifically around commercial spaceflight requirements.
