This Moritz Grossmann reference MG-002708 is the Hamatic Vintage in white gold, a limited edition of just 25 pieces from the independent Glashütte manufacture. Its name and its fascination both come from the winding: rather than a conventional rotor, the in-house calibre 106.0 winds automatically through a hammer — a pivoting weight with a heavy gold head that swings with the wrist and captures energy from movements as slight as five degrees, a modern revival of a mechanism dating to the earliest self-winding watches. The whole system is laid open through the sapphire back. The dial is a specialty in itself: a mirror-polished German-silver base treated to a deep, shiny "black-or" finish, set with white Roman numerals, a running seconds sub-dial at six, and the vintage "M. Grossmann" logo of 1875. The 18k white gold case measures 41mm in height and width with a thickness of 11.35mm.
