Description
Introduced in 1958, the Patek Philippe 3418 Amagnetic stands apart as one of the brand’s rare, true tool watches, produced exclusively in stainless steel for only four years until 1962. The reference was tailored for scientific and technical professionals, highlighted by its anti-magnetic properties and robust four-piece waterproof case produced by Jean Vallon in Neuchatel. Inside, the manually wound caliber featured a gold or beryllium lever escapement, constructed to function reliably under magnetic influences of up to 450 oersted—a technical feat at the time. Only approximately 100 examples were produced, with fewer than 40 documented to survive, contributing to its significant rarity and desirability among collectors. The model’s classic silvered dial and understated presence belied its sophisticated engineering, while its production marked Patek’s answer to the growing demand for high-precision, magnetically resistant timepieces in the late 1950s. Today, the 3418 occupies a distinguished position due to its historic importance in Patek Philippe’s lineage, representing a bridge between elegant dress watches and genuine tool watches within the Geneva manufacture. The original fixed steel bracelet, typically supplied by Cornu and Cie, amplifies its period-correct appeal. Like New with European Watch Company leather travel pouch and Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives dated 1959. Includes Patek Philippe service papers dated 2016.
