Description
The Ulysse Nardin reference 446-22 is an uncommon split-seconds chronograph from the 1990s, housed in 18K yellow gold with a cream dial, Roman numerals, blued Breguet hands, and an outer tachymeter scale. Auction records place production roughly between 1991 and 1996, a brief period in Ulysse Nardin's modern era. Inside is the manually wound caliber 175 TJ, a traditional rattrapante movement that gives the watch real mechanical weight beyond its dressy appearance. The case measures 40 mm and includes a display back, so the movement remains part of the experience. What makes the 446-22 especially appealing is the combination of classical chronograph styling and split-seconds functionality. A rattrapante is considerably more complex than a standard chronograph, and it is still far less common. Here, that complication is paired with a dial that stays formal and easy to read, with engine-turned subsidiary registers and applied yellow gold numerals. The reference appears only occasionally on the market, which has made it particularly interesting to collectors who look for complicated chronographs outside the usual names. Within Ulysse Nardin's broader output, the 446-22 is a thoughtful, mechanically serious watch from a period when the brand was making traditional complications in small numbers. For the collector, it offers a strong mix of precious metal construction, true rattrapante chronograph pedigree, and genuine scarcity. Like New with EWC leather travel pouch.
