Description
The Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 (ref. 5000H/000A‑B582) is a modern reinterpretation of the Maison’s first water‑resistant chronograph from 1955, distinguished by its signature “cow‑horn” lugs. Introduced as a steel model after initial precious‑metal editions, this watch marries vintage elegance with contemporary refinement. It houses the hand‑wound Caliber 1142—an in‑house evolution of the Lemania 2310—featuring a column‑wheel chronograph, horizontal clutch, Geneva Seal finishing, 48‑hour power reserve, and a free‑sprung balance beating at 21,600 vph. The 38.5 mm stainless‑steel case, measuring just 10.9 mm thick, offers a balanced wrist presence that echoes the original while remaining wearable. The opaline silver dial, with snailed subdials, applied white‑gold Roman numerals, and a black tachymeter track, delivers restrained sophistication and legibility. Paired with a brown calfskin strap crafted by Serapian of Milan, the watch exudes artisanal charm. As a regular production steel model, it presents a rare opportunity to own a haute horlogerie chronograph with historic lineage and technical pedigree in a more accessible metal.
