This is an 18k yellow gold Vacheron Constantin Les Historiques Chronograph 47101/1. It has an alligator leather strap with a gold Vacheron platinum tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. There is an exhibition snap on sapphire display case back with the rim stamped with the Vacheron Constantin Maltese cross, the reference number, the serial number, and other hallmarks. It has rectangular chronograph pushbuttons. The 36mm diameter solid three-body case, sculptured teardrop lugs, and stepped bezel are polished. The dial is matte silver with applied faceted yellow gold baton indexes and Arabic numeral hour markers at 6 and 12 o'clock. It has yellow gold baton hands, a center sweep seconds chronograph hand, and a 60-minute/one-fifth second scale with Arabic numerals every five minutes. Around the perimeter is a black tachymeter scale to 1000 UPH. There are two gold-rimmed recessed subsidiary dials with railway-style markers and blued indicator hands, including a constant small seconds register at 9 o'clock, and a 30-minute chronograph totalizer at 3 o'clock. It has a 48-hour power reserve at full wind, and it's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 11mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Vacheron Constantin Les Historiques Chronograph 47101/1 has a mechanical manual winding Vacheron Les Historiques 1140 (based on a Lemania mechanism) chronograph movement. It's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment and a cote de Geneve finish on the bridges. The baseplate, visible behind the screwed balance wheel, has fine perlage. The edges of the bridges, levers and screw slots have been beveled and polished. It's constructed with 21 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism, and 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, a swan-neck micrometer regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz.). The Vacheron Constantin Les Historiques Chronograph 47101/1 was introduced in 1989, an homage to their famous reference 4178 from the 1940's and 50's. It's updated with a signed winding crown and the advanced Lemania-based engine.
