EWC's Watches and Wonders Wishlist
Opinion
Watches & Wonders, which begins on April 14th in Geneva, is quickly approaching, and there’s lots of speculation and predictions about what new watches may get released during this year’s show. At European Watch Company, we thought we’d do something a little different: no predictions, just wishful thinking. Read on to learn what our team would wish for from their favorite brands if they were making the decisions about what to bring to market.
Cat Nelson: Rolex Daytona in 37 or 38mm

“I would love a 37 or 38mm Daytona, available in all the metals currently offered in the 40mm size - Oystersteel, yellow gold, white gold, Everose gold, and platinum. I’d especially like to see Everose paired with an ivory dial.”
Robert Reustle: Patek Gondolo

“I would really like to see Patek start making some nice Gondolos again! For the better part of the last decade, the only offerings in that collection have been jeweled ladies pieces. They have an incredibly rich history of interesting cases and movements, and yet they've let that collection wither. If the sky was truly the limit, I'd ask for some asymmetrical pieces in the style of Gilbert Albert, but at this point I'd even settle for some classic rectangles and squares.”
David Cote: Rolex Daytona “Le Mans” in steel

“I’d like to see this offered in two flavors: a crisp panda and a moody reverse panda, both with just a touch of vintage-inspired detailing. Think a slightly slimmer case, beveled lugs, and a deep red Le Mans accent on the dial and bezel. Clean, motorsport-focused, no gimmicks - just a modern steel racing chronograph that nods to Rolex’s history at the track while still feeling like a watch you’d absolutely see in the paddock today.”
Christopher Weiss: Lange 1 with a mix of Roman and Arabic numerals

“The design for A. Lange & Söhne's outsize date was inspired by the Five-Minute Clock, a massive clock designed by F. A. Lange's teacher for the Dresden Semper Opera House. This clock has two windows, the left indicating hours in Roman numerals and the right indicating minutes—in five-minute increments—in Arabic numerals.
My dream is to see a Lange 1 where the outsize date is presented in just this same way. The tens digit of the date in Roman (I, II, III). The ones digit in Arabic (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.). So, as an example, Lange's styling of 25 in the date window would instead become II 5. They could also do the same for the Zeitwerk, with the hours disc in Romans and the minutes discs in Arabic. 7:52 becomes VII 52.”
Ivana Bozikovic: Rolex Daytona 6262 re-issue

“It would be refreshing to see a re-edition of the Rolex Daytona 6262 with the tri-color dial. A slightly larger case, around 38mm, would be perfect. I would not change much about it, but just give it a refreshed look. What can I say? I just like the classics!”
Will Rolex pursue multiple Daytona iterations, will Patek venture back into funky Gondolo case shapes, or will A. Lange & Söhne venture into mixed numerals? Only time, as they say, will tell.
