This Christophe Claret Maestro comes from one of modern watchmaking's most inventive movement constructors — a maker who spent years building complications for the great houses before signing his own name — and is built around the patented MEMO, a three-dimensional reminder the owner flips to mark a daily intention; a watch for the collector who wants haute horlogerie that doesn't take itself entirely seriously, and one of just 88 in titanium. It is driven by the hand-wound calibre DMC16, its 342 parts arranged beneath stepped, skeletonised Charles X bridges with a large balance in full view and twin series-coupled barrels delivering a seven-day reserve. Alongside the MEMO sits a striking three-dimensional conical date. The grade 5 titanium case measures 42mm across with a thickness of 16.06mm, the light metal keeping so tall and intricate a watch surprisingly wearable. Here the openworked movement is the dial, layered and beveled for real depth. Serious complication-making with a genuine sense of play, the Maestro is unlike anything from the established houses.
