This Patek Philippe 2508 is an unusual and characterful vintage Calatrava, more robust and sporting than the maison's typical dress watches of its era. Its notably large case for the period carries a screw-down back — marking Patek Philippe's first venture into the waterproof time-only wristwatch — along with an inner dust cover that foreshadowed the brand's later amagnetic references, and proportions that echo the celebrated reference 1463 chronograph. Powered by the hand-wound calibre 27 SC, one of the most admired vintage centre-seconds movements and bearing the Hallmark of Geneva, it was Patek's first direct centre-seconds calibre made at scale and went on to underpin some of the maison's most revered complicated references. The yellow-gold case measures 35mm across and 10mm in thickness, wearing with real presence for a watch of its age.
