This Patek Philippe Chronograph reference 5070P-001 closed the line in its heaviest metal. Its manual-wind caliber CH 27-70 was based on the Lemania 2310, the outside ebauche that underpinned Patek's great chronographs before the 5170 moved the firm in-house. That makes this watch the end of one movement story as much as the last chapter of the 5070 itself, a strong place to enter the reference for a collector following Patek's chronograph arc. Platinum carries the case to 42mm across and 11.7mm thick, a scale that still sets the 5070 apart from the smaller chronographs around it. Against that size, the blue dial gives the watch a cooler and more modern character than the earlier metals. Patek had not made a chronograph-only watch on this scale since reference 2512, and nothing about the 5070 reads as a tentative return. It stands as the final expression of Patek's Lemania era in a pure two-register chronograph.
