This Patek Philippe reference 5170R is the rose gold version of the 5170, the chronograph that gave Patek Philippe its first fully in-house, manually wound chronograph movement. Where the earlier 5070 had relied on a reworked Lemania base, the 5170 introduced the calibre CH 29-535 PS — a column-wheel chronograph carrying several of Patek's own patented refinements — which has since become the foundation for the house's finest chronograph and split-seconds references. That milestone movement is much of what makes the reference significant. The 18k rose gold case measures 39.4mm in height and width with a thickness of just 8.5mm, its slim three-body profile and downturned lugs giving it a properly elegant, dress-watch stance. The ebony-black dial carries applied gold Breguet numerals and gold leaf hands, with a 30-minute counter at three and small seconds at nine.
