Why Collectors Love This

This Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 in platinum is among the rarest executions of one of watchmaking's most characterful designs. The American 1921 descends from a small series Vacheron Constantin made in 1921 for the American market: a cushion-shaped case with the crown set at the upper right and the dial turned forty-five degrees, so a driver could read the time without lifting his hands from the wheel. In platinum, with a silvered dial, blue Arabic numerals and matching blue hands, it is that design in unusually precious and seldom-seen form. The hand-wound in-house calibre 4400 AS, just 2.8mm thick and bearing the Hallmark of Geneva, keeps the whole watch slim. The platinum case measures 40mm in height and width with a thickness of 8mm, understated on the wrist despite the density of the metal.
